are you embarrassed or sad?
do you just have no luck these days?
hey, look at the screen of your iphone or ipod touch, the look with eight-twenty eyebrows might be your expression now. is this only an expression picture? of course not, it's actually a chinese character that has been existed thousands of years .
amazing, huh? its pronunciation in chinese also means the poor situation you are in. so isn't it the best way to show your feelings at the moment?
but please pay attention, this chinese character has a magical property which can end your bad luck or sadness, because its original meaning is a bright window full of sunshine and hope. this character on your iphone makes the way you show your feelings unique, the bizarre face makes you laugh, the further meaning brings you good luck, so why not have one? last but not least, once get the puzzle done, you'll get special presents!
possess one, have a lucky day!

it seems that many people today are overweight. no one wants to carry around extra pounds, lout few people know how to slum down effectively. they look for miracle pills and magic cures.
in the end, they fail and the pounds ***e back. but the most effective way of losing weight is actually very ******. it is a ***bination of a good diet and proper exercise.
what makes it work is determination. it requires discipline and ***mitment to succeed. here is an example that proves the truth of these words.
my aunt had been trying to lose weight for years. she went on one diet after another, but none of them worked. she lost a lot of weight quickly only to have it ***e back.
finally, she followed her doctor's advice and began to eat a ******, well-balanced diet. she ate lots of fruits and vegetables and avoided high-fat foods. in addition, she joined an exercise class.
she worked out three times a week. at first, my aunt wasn't happy because the weight came off so slowly. but her clas**ates encouraged her to stick to it and eventually she reached her goal.
best of all, she was able to stay at her ideal weight. that was because she had developed healthy new habits.

my university
honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
it is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful saturday (sunday) morning to share with you my sentiments about my university, qiqihar , who has a history of more than 50 years.
the inspiring motto “cultivation of righteousness and virtue, construction of refinement and spontaneity”, you don’t how much it has shaped me. for me, my university is a marvelous ship-builder who designed me from kneel plates up.
above all,it has provided me with a precise ***pass----the sense of social responsibility. how can i best serve the interest of the public while achieving my self-fulfillment? my one summer’s experience as a part-time math teacher has testified:
to be valuable to society as well as to find my place, i have to possess some actual strength and the ability to function well in the most challenging situation. amid the hectic schedule that balances club activities, sports, and academic courses, i feel the rhythm and beauty in the intensity of my high-pitched life, knowing that i ‘m on the right way.
besides, my university has equipped me, first with a powerful propeller-----keeping optimistic. i can never f***et the summer this year. i went through an extremity of despair due to my failure in the national college entrance examination.
however, at the first class of psychology, our professor told us that keeping optimistic, you will be able to realize, in spite of some hardship, there’s always hope waiting for you, which will lead you to the ultimate success. hearing these sentences i felt something important struck me. actually, ***pared to what others have been through i’m fortunate
and more importantly, my university has set up not only single ships, but also fleets with ***mon destinations. by interacting with friends of ***mon dreams. when mr.
martin luther king fell down, his words “i have a dream” spread across the world. i’d say, there is also a dream. it isn’t a grandiose slogan, it belongs to every ordinary student of qiqihar.
in fact, the words my tutor told us at the first meeting was keeping your dreams and it will help you get through the rough spots with little more fortitude.
so my dear friends, if social responsibility, optimistic and dreams are added to your university life, you will find the confidence to conquer your limitation and embrace new challenges in your university. “if i could reach higher, just for one moment to touch the sky”. as long as we are hand in hand, heart to heart, together we will shape a beautiful tomorrow!
finally, hopefully with my speech included, you will have a fantastic speech contest. thank you for listening!
the cynics say the college students are the pampered lost generation, which would cringe at the slightest dis***fort. but the cynics are wrong. the college students i see are eagerly learning about how to live independently.
we help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain together, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocket money.
the cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. but again, the cynics are wrong. we care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth.
last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.
as college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. we all face a fundamental choice: cynici** or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country.
i believe in all my fellow clas**ates. though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. i believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities.
we are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. i believe in our future.

"never say die, i've been down this road before. i'll never quit, i'll never lay down." it's the song named "win".
it tells us never say die.
seeing this topic, what first strikes my mind is the group of blind football players who won the silver medal at the beijing paralympics games. what they did shows the spirit of the old saying “never say die”. instead of giving up because of their blindness, they have redoubled their efforts and they did wonders.
never give up, even though there are many difficult things waiting for you. if you try your best, maybe there will be many successes behind you the next time.
i once read a book called "the count of monte cristo". in the book, it says, all human wisdom is summed up in these two words, wait and hope. just try your best, wait for the success and hold on your hopes.
trying times will pass, as they always do. face the trouble heroically
and just have patience, your dreams will xxe true and you will surely win.
good morning ladies and gentleman. my name is miller. i’d like to talk to you today about the topic of traffic jams in shanghai.
the purpose of this talk is to analysis the problem of traffic jams and try to make some advices in my view. i shall only take about four minutes of your times. i’ve divided my presentation into three parts.
first. status. yesterday, i went to xujiahui.
i start my route at 1:00pm. when i arrived home, it was 8:
00pm. i only use nearly 3 hours on shopping. that means i almost waste 4 hours on the way.
that is the traffic jams status in shanghai.
second. reasons. i found that the traffic management is the most serious problem in the traffic system.
in some important crossroads, there are no enough traffic police to do the traffic grooming. it’s irrational. we paid so much taxes, but we cannot xxfort what we should get.
for example, on the overhead, two cars had made a traffic accident. this leaded the traffic jams. we had not see the traffic police from start to end.
it took me nearly 10 minutes on the overhead. it was happened yesterday.
third. to solve it. what i can advice is just add more traffic polices in the important crossroads.
it’s the most useful way to solve the
traffic jams. because yesterday when we nearly went out the overhead, the speed was increased obviously. we found several traffic polices in the crossroad.
they xxmanded cars and then the traffic went well.
that brings me to the end of my presentation. let me just run over the key points again. traffic jams was made by several resources.
to solve it, we can depend on the traffic police. but for ourselves, to drive more carefully, more reasonably, maybe is another way to decrease the traffic jams.
thank you for your attention. any questions?

what to eat on campus?
welxxe to the diet instruction of zhongnan university.
first, let’s start with refectory. you must have heard that the college refectory is diversity of food with different tastes and types, because the students it’s faced are from across china. there are seven in all in our college which aren’t named the first to the seventh, whatever, i don’t know.
i’ll relate to four of them. the first is the tenth rectory which is also the one stands nearest from my dorm, it’s cheap and of course not so delicious, but if you are not hypercritical about the food, it’s a good choice, after all, i spent one third of my mealtime there. then xxe to the fifth refectory which is nearby the playground and another dormitory area—zhongqu, and it’s also the first refectory i patronized during military training, you can enjoy different local color of different countries.
the third is binhu refectory that i rexxmend most for its quality and reasonable price. the last one is popular among my clas**ates; it’s a pity that i haven’t tried it.
if you want to eat outside, i wonder to divide it into three parts—xiyuan, nanyuan and beiyuan. nanyuan is famous with barbecue, beiyuan is collected with xiyuan. so i’ll stress on xiyuan called degenerate street as well and occupies my two thirds of mealtime.
if you want to have porridge, then there is a dining car called chaoshan, appeared half a year after my arrival in this school. it’s the best choice
without doubt .if you want to have noodles, i’ll take you to a noodle shop called laojia or another dining car sell fried bean curd and beef with cayenne pepper. certainly, once you are in wuhan, you can’t miss the hot dry noodles.
if you want to have rice, datangmingfeng is an alternative. some people call it snack street because it’s a closed house with many shops of many kinds of food.if you want to have fruits, i hope that you’d better buy it in school on account of avoiding being cheating for the weight that may take you a little more money .
also; there are a lot of restaurant, bakery, dumpling house and stewed mixed meats house. in addition to that, we have western food, but not mcdonald and kentucky fried chicken, anyway, it’s totally fine to enjoy it.
all right, i hope that will help you with your bite and sup.
different kinds of friends
according to the interaction, friends may fall into four categories: bosom friends, good friends, ordinary friends and acquaintances.
as to bosom friend, one is enough. it doesn’t matter what gender he or she is, how long you have known her, how far you are now away from her, and how often you chat with her. you will not tell her anything, but the thing you will tell must be related to your deepest feelings.
besides your parents, she is the one to point out your bad habits which may have bad effects on you, to make you **ile whenever you are sad, to talk with you free from any kinds of jokes and topics, and to induce the most genuine things of you. sometimes she may do everything for you better than your parents. “we will be bosom friends forever” maybe harder than the promise between lovers.
there is a saying that bosom friend aren’t those give 10 thousand when she owns 10 billions, but those give you all her money even if she only owns one cent. if you own a bosom friend, you are lucky enough.
good friends are those stay with you for most of your everyday life, and experience most of your experience. you may have many secret thoughts to share with her and many stupid things to do with her. however, sometimes you may consider the property of the things you are about to talk with her for avoiding offending her, because more or less
there will be some benefits exist between you and this type of friends. maybe that’s why you can’t treat them as your bosom friend. you don’t mean to separate them on purpose, but the only thing you know is that they are different.
ordinary friends are those work with you as clas**ates or colleagues. they may help you a lot when you are in trouble, only if the consequence does no harm to them.
acquaintances are those you have met with but you will hardly have interacts later. but if you xxe across with each other, more or less you will shake hands, **ile, or nod your head and walk away.
the criterion of the classification about friends may be different among people. no matter what type she belongs to in your mind, you should treat them with your enthusia**, for you will be rewarded with their kindness as well.

2. 我的宿舍生活my dormitory lifemy dormitory life ***pared with the forty year old shabby dormitory i am living in now, the one i lived in for three years in high school was heaven: three students shared one brand new suite with air conditioners and a bathroom.
in three years time we changed it thoroughly:the color of the floor turned from bright pink into muddy gray, and the closet a hive of insects proliferating among piles of rotten fruit.and our masterpiece was the bathroom, a never drying swamp which served as the habitat of various kinds of mold, and even rodents, rats would occasionally take the trouble to pay us a visit, and..
, all three of us felt like sobbing when we at last had to say good bye to our lovely filthy dormitory. maybe it is because that the dormitory had changed us as well as we'd changed it.the first lesson our dormitory taught us was to look after ourselves.
frankly speaking, we were not good students at all. i still remember the underwear that was soaked in soapy water for one and a half years before it was finally thrown away. almost each of the boys' dormitories had gradually developed its own unique “fragrance” usually a mixture of rotten fruit, unwashed socks, stunk towels and some junk food.
we could tell one dormitory from another by sniffing instead of looking. our tolerance towards untidiness was amazing.however, in spite of all this, we really did make some progress.
bit by bit, we started to wash dirty clothes before they stunk, cleaned the garbage bin when it could hold no more trash, we even used brushes in a not-sc-successful attempt to refurbish the floor. the point was that we were not obeying any order, we did every bit of the cleaning for ourselves, because we wanted to live in a better place. though nothing we did could be called an achievement, it was the first time we fully bore the consequences of our behavior, and took the responsibility.
thus it was not surprising that i often found myself the only one to clean up my university dormitory which looked no better than a garbage bin when my roommates felt normal of it.when talking about our dormitory life, and probably all the dormitory life, we should never leave out one thing. this was what we called “bed talks”.
though it was considered “illegal,”there was nothing to stop us from deliberately starting a heated discussion right after lights were out. it was our favorite and the only way of ending our day, and we were as punctual for it as our parents are for work. what was the most ***mon topic?
girls, of course! what other topics were there for three energetic adolescent males lying ***fortably in bed? we judged them, ranked them, argued over them night after night without feeling the slightest sense of boredom for three whole years.

[ 5. 幸福是什么-what is happiness?-大學(xué)英語作文happiness means different things to different people.
for example, some people believe that if they have lots of money, they will be happy. they believe that if they are wealthy, they will be able to do anything they want, which means happiness. on the other hand, some people believe that holding a high positionin the government is happiness.
in this way, you have not onlymoney, but also many other things which can't be bought by money.however, other people believe that having lots of money is not happiness nor is holding a high position in the government. these people value their beliefs, or their intelligence, or their health.
they think these can make them happy.for me, happiness is closely tied to my studies, my work and my family. when i made great progress in my studies, when i made contributions to the society through my work, when all the members in my family live in harmony, sharing good and sad times, i was happy.
although the definition of happiness depends on each individual my “wealth” of happiness is in my studies, my work, and my family. 6. 經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展與環(huán)境保護(hù) economic development and envir.
some people believe that economic development should never be at the cost of the environment. they think the present serious environmental problems are largely caused by rapideconomic development. for example, land resources are shrinking because of the industrial development and the expansion of cities.
deserts are spreading because of over grazing, poor fanning, tree cutting, and strip mining. our air and water supplies are being polluted by poisonous gassesand waste products. it is important, therefore, that we should take another look at the way in which our industries and cities are developing.
however, other people think it unnecessary to consider environmental problems now and our first priority should always be given to economic development. they believe that environmental problems are inevitable and unavoidable in the process of economic development. they are only the by products of economic development, which can be dealt with later when we have the time and money.
i think the second idea is ***pletelywrong. our ultimate aim in economic development is to provide a ***fortable and happy life for our people. what is the point of economic development if we achieve it at the cost of our environment?
there has been much evidence to prove that a balance between the two helps more rapid and continuous development. 7. 樹立目標(biāo)的重要性-the importance of goalwhy is goal-setting important?
because goals can help you do and experience every meaningful thing you hope for in life. instead of letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen.successful people have visions of what their life should be and they set lots of goals, both sbort-term and long-range, to help them realize the visions.
by setting goals you are taking control of your life. it is like having a map to show where you want to go. a driver with an aim arrives at the destination without any waste of time or wrong turns.
on the contrary, a driver with no aim drives aimlessly around, never getting anywhere and just using up gas and oil. winners in life set goals and follow through on them. they decide what they want and then get there by ****** plans and setting goals.
goals ara not difficult to set and they are not difficult to reach. it is up to you to find out what your goals, ideals and visions really are. with a clear direction, and with certain plans, you will straightly get what you want.
without a goal, you have to live a passive life. you do not know where to go, what you want and why you are listless. then your life be ***es dull and meaningless just like the dead water in a muddy lake.

城市化利弊談-advantages and disadvantages of u.urbanization has been a subject of heated discussion for a long time. some people are in favor, while others are opposed.
in my opinion, urbanization has both advantages and disadvantages.generally, the advantages of urbanization can be listed as follows. first, urbanization can quicken our pace to catch up with the developed countries.
we all know that the developed countries are all highly urbanized. second, urbanization will help to solve the problem of unemployment. it will create more job opportunities for the unemployed.
in addition, urbanization will free a great number of farmers from the fields, thus realizing the dream of agricultural mechanization in our country. finally, urbanization can improve the standards of living of the migrants who move to the urban area.however, the disadvantages of urbanization are also obvious.
to begin with, administration of the increasing population in urban area might be a great challenge to the government. moreover, more problems, such as increasing crime rate, over crowding, might increase, since more people are concentrated in a relatively **aller place.it is evident that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
therefore, i am in favor of urbanization. 11. 逆境是成功的關(guān)鍵-adversity often leads to prospeadversity often leads to prosperityeverybody wants to lead a successful life.
but a number of people failed to realize their ambitions or their personal goals though they had dreamed of it throughout their whole lives. in order to succeed, one is required to have such personal qualities as diligence, persistence, intelligence, patience and so on. besides them, i hold adversity is also one of the key factors and that it often leads to prosperity.
the seemingly mistaken conclusion reveals the ***mon ph**omenon, people in adversity tend to express their full range of potential and actualize their own personal worththe very aim of a human life. and it is also supported by lots of successful people's experiences both in old days and nowadays, both at home and abroad.during the period of chunqiu, the emperor of the yue,gou jian, was defeated by the wu and trapped in prison.
adversity stimulated him to revenge instead of discouraged him. gou jian hanged a gall and tasted it before sleep every day so as to keep the humiliation and revenge always in mind. owing to his undefeated qualities and persistent struggle, he defeated the wu and drew himself from adversity to prosperity in the end.
david beckham, the captain of the english soccer team, was famous for his fascinating technique as well as his handsome appearance. he led england to defeat argentina as a national revenge in the latest korea japan world cup and he was regarded to be one of the five greatest football players in the world by brazilian football star robert carlos.however, ten years ago, he was only an ordinary young player and was put in the second team of man utd.
once he was even lent to another team in english a by ferguson and it seemed that he would be abandoned as burden of his club someday. beckham was not defeated by all the difficulties and he was sensible enough to make full use of adversity as an agent to push himself forward. he studied the ***bat, increased his stamina and strength, improved the technique and dribbling and trained the skill of passing and free kicking.
as a result of his persistent and painstaking training, beginning with the famous wonderful goal from the centre circle in 1996, he brought himself a hot prospect. 12. 彩票的負(fù)面影響-大學(xué)英語作文spare the lotterylottery, booming all of a sudden all over the world, attracts all kinds of people.
nearly everybody, old or young, rich or poor, is right now trying his luck in lottery or is thinking of doing so. despite many disputes that lottery is receiving, i still assume, personally, that lottery does mere good than harm.the worst effect caused by lottery, as many socialists indicate, is that it produces in people an idea of “gain without pain'.
but at the same time, they neglect one point--it is human nature that people all expect to obtain most while offer least.the thought of “gain without pain” is buried in everyone's heart and is not bred by lottery.consequently, lottery is innocent in this way.
but there still remain a large group of people against lottery, among whom are some lottery addicts. such people are fond of lottery but unfortunately luck is never fond of them. finally, they end up in ***plaining about lottery, declaring the great harm, both psychologically and economically lottery has done to them.
in this case, the problem lies in the attitude of people, not lottery.since the major two sorts of harm are not lottery's fault, let's have an objective look on lottery. for the society, lottery is the most practical way to accumulate funds.
for those who happen to win a large fortune, i think they can't kiss their lottery enough. also for those who have not a single chance to be lucky dogs, lottery can mutely tell them the truth of “no pains, no gains.”spare the lottery!
it, in itself can do more good than harm.

2 Good afternoon, my dear friends.
I am very happy to meet you here.It is my great honor to communicate with you at such a special occation.First of all, please allow me to express my appreciation to you all to listion to me.
I am proud of being a college student. The collegelife is fresh, new teachers, new classmates and new friends. I like the friendship, and their wide knowledge and opening mind. The grand library, school buildings and wide playground attrattde me very much.My college life is better than I expected, I can do anything I like. In the college we can not only learn the professional knowledge, but also develop our comprehensive abilities. If we can make full use of the period,we can learn many useful things.Besides,we should have the active attitude to our life,do a contributionto the society.
Collegelife is the most precious time in our life. Most of us want to become an outstanding man. But there are some students still waste their time. They get together for eating, drinking or playing cards. They're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. They completely forget their task as college students.
Finally, I hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy person to our country, and make great contributions to the society!
Thank you.
3 ladies and gentlemen , good afternoon! i’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. today my topic is “youth”. i hope you will like it , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it.
first i want to ask you some questions:
1、do you know what is youth?
2、how do you master your youth?
youth
youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life .
youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. this often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . nobody grows old merely by a number of years . we grow old by deserting our ideals.
years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .
whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . in the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
when the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.
thank you!
4 Good morning, it's my honor to stand here and give you this speech about dreams. There I want to start my speech with two short stories.
The first story happened when I was in primary school, I wrote in my composition that my dream was to be a teacher when I grew up. Meanwhile, what my classmates wrote about their dreams was that he or she wanted to be a doctor, a scientist or an astronaut.
The second story happened at my first year in university. At the careers planning class, when the teacher asked about our dreams, one of my classmates stood up and said, “I want to be a farmer, because I grow up in a farmer's family and I love to be engaged in agriculture.” When he sat down, everyone clapped.
These two stories happened during my growth process, from which I got my understanding of dreams. When I was a child I believed that a dream must be a big dream, but when I grow up I find this big dream is so far away from me, I know little about it, and I have done nothing to achieve it, so it's not my dream. My classmate's answer let me know a real dream is not just about being a great man, or doing a great job, it's about what you really want to be, and are willing to try every effort to pursue it.
Because what makes a dream valuable is not just about the result, it's also about the process, the process when you are trying, when you are struggling, when you failed and restarted again and again, because of the process, dreams can be meaningful and become your wealth.
Thank you.
hello, my dear friends, it is my great honor to be here and give a speech. today i want to talk about the east and the west, let’s enjoy the ***bination of the two cultures?
kipling said: “east is east, and west is west, and never the twain shall meet!” but now, a century later, they have met.
they have met in business. they have met in education. they have met in the arts.
some people will argue that these meetings will leave us with a choice between east and west, but i believe that the best future lies in the creative ***bination of both worlds. we can make western ideas, customs and technology our own, and adapt them to our own use. we can enjoy the best of both worlds, because our tradition is, above all, one of selecting the best and ****** it our own.
i love beijing and henan opera because it always reminds me of who i am. but i am also a fan of pop music, especially english songs. so i have ***bined eastern melody with western language.
it is called western henna opera.
when two cultures meet, there may be things in one culture, which do not fit into the tradition of the other. when this happens, we need to learn to understand and respect the customs of another culture. then there are certain things some people may not like.
to this, i will say, if you do not like it, please try to tolerate it. to learn to tolerate what you personally don’t like is a great virtue at a time when different cultures mix and merge. before us, there are two rivers, eastern and western cultures.
at present, they may run in different courses. but eventually, they will converge into the vast sea of human culture.
right now, i can see peoples of eastern and western cultures, standing side by side, singing the olympic theme song: we are hand in hand, heart to heart, together we will shape a beautiful tomorrow! thank you!
